Airport and transport – bridge connection to the island Ugljan; ferryboat with towns Biograd na Moru (around 6 km) and Zadar (through Island Ugljan; around 8 km); airport in Zadar.
History – inhabited since Paleolitic (since than the constant human presence was continued).
Interesting to see: Benedictine monastery of Saint Cosmos and Damian (12th century); stone statue of St. Michael (12th century; in Nevidjane); Franciscan monastery (14th century).
Info – 11 villages, around 3 000 inhabitants; highest peak Bokolj, 272 m; 75 km of indented coastline; many pebbled and sandy beaches; one of the most beautiful sandy beaches is in Mrljane, a village famous for its small swamp with healing mud; known to have the cleanest water in the Adriatic due to the current constantly changing (every 6 hours); numerous undersea caves (for certified divers); rich undersea life (for scuba-divers); rich flora (many species of medicinal and aromatic plants) and fauna; average number of yearly sunny hours is about 2 500 and in July there are 10-12 sunny hours per day.
Inevitable to see: The Franciscan Monastery of St. Duje has a museum that features artwork by area artists.
Inevitable to taste: olive oil (2 000 years of tradition in olive growing); wine (many vineyards).
For sailors:
Pašman (settlement and port are situated on a small peninsula): exposed to NW; behind the breakwater sheltered from all other winds; strong sea currents (2 knots; in this part of the Pašman Channel) complicate approaching into the harbor; when approaching from SE it is good to use the passage E from islets Čavatul, Dužac Veli, Dužac Mali and Muntan. Warning-shallow: S from the lighthouse on the islet Babac. Berth: along the inner side of the breakwater (inner part of the port is occupied by vessels from the locals).
Banj: exposed to bora and N; sheltered (behind the breakwater) from jugo and E. Berth: from the inner side of the first half of the breakwater (warning-shallow: further toward the heel depths are below 1 m); (in the port) there are two smaller moles (depths on their heads are around 1.5 m).
Barotul (port on the E side of the bay Taline): exposed to bora and N wind; sheltered from jugo, and behind the breakwater sheltered from waves caused by wind bora. Berth: from the inner side of the breakwater (warning: along the head is shallow); or along the head of the concrete mole (S from the breakwater). Warning: islet Garmenjak should be sailed around from the N side (in the passage between it and the coast is only 1 m deep); at a distance of 0.4 NM NW from the islets is small islet Školjić; in the middle of the bay is a stranded wreck that protrudes from the sea and by night is very hard visible.
Dobropoljana: sheltered from bora, jugo, and W wind. Berth: from both side of the mole in the N part of the port (the rest is occupied by vessels of the locals). Warning: this port is only for smaller vessels, max depths are up to 2.5 m (but only near the head of the N mole).
Čelinja: exposed to jugo; sheltered from bora and NW; berth: one mole in the bay (warning: depth along the head is 1.5 m); muddy bottom; depth in the middle of the bay is 5 m.
Kobiljak: exposed to jugo; sheltered from bora, NW and (on the E side of the bay from) jugo; organized anchorage: in W part of the bay; in the middle of the E part is 10 m deep; there is a small mole on the E side of the bay (along head is depth around 2.5 m).
Kraj: sheltered from all winds (inside the port); berth: (for smaller vessels) in the front part of the port (depth around 1.5 m).
Landin: exposed to SE wind; partly sheltered from the winds of the I, III and IV quadrant and from the waves that creates wind jugo. Approach: depth in the passage between the shore and islet Landilić (in front of the E cape of the bay) is 2 m. Berth: many smaller moles (in the inner part of the bay; depths around 3 m). Anchorage: in the middle of the bay (depths 5-10 m; sandy bottom; holds well).
Mrljane (small port on the W side of the bay Taline): exposed to bora and N wind; sheltered from jugo. Berth: along the long mole with the breakwater (only in a part which is open toward Pašman Channel; warning: in front of the head of the mole is ridge belt). Forbidden anchor (because of the cliffs and the crags): from the outer side of the mole in a part where there is no breakwater. Shallows: near the coast. Warning: at a distance of 0.4 NM NW from the islets is small islet Školjić; in the middle of the bay Taline there is a stranded wreck that protrudes from the sea and during the night is very hard visible.
Neviđane: exposed to bora and N wind; sheltered from SE and SW. Warning: E from the port light (on the head of the breakwater) there is a stranded wreck. Berth: along the small breakwater (on the first half from the head of the breakwater, where depths are from 1.5-3 m; warning: further towards the heel is shallow).
Soline: exposed to bora (middle part of the bay); sheltered: (in SE part of the bay) from the winds of the I and II quadrant, (in NW part of the bay) from the waves that causes NW wind; also NW wind causes harbor swell. Berth: (smaller vessels) in SE and in NW part of the bay; (bigger vessels) can anchor on the middle of the bay (where buoys for anchoring are placed). Warning: depths are rapidly growing; on the middle of the bay depth is around 30 m.
Tkon: exposed (on the ferry pier) to winds of the I and II quadrant (white harbor light is on the head of the pier); (inside the breakwater) sheltered from all winds. Berth: (only vessels with the small draught; sea depth under 1 m) along the waterfront (that continues in NW direction on the pier); behind the breakwater (with a red light on the head) along its inner part (depths around 2 m); inner part of the port is occupied by vessels of the locals. Shallow: in the part of the harbor between NW breakwater and inner part of the port.
Triluke: exposed to the waves caused by wind jugo; sheltered from all winds; W from the entrance in the bay there is an islet Žižanj (depth in the passage between is 4.8 m). Shallows: (many) when approaching to the bay from the S side (especially between the islets Kotula Mala, Kotula Vela and Runjava Kotula), also when approaching from NE side (in front of the capes Gnalić and Borovnjak). Warning: E from the islet Žižanj is an unmarked reef. Anchorage: in the inner part of the bay (on the sandy bottom).
Zaklopica: sheltered from winds NW, jugo and bora (under the cape on the N shore); anchorage: in the S part of the bay or below the cape on the N shore (the bottom is muddy).
Ždrelac (the settlement and the port are situated partly near the passage Ždrelac, whose big bay is anchorage for a lot of ships): bay is exposed to bora and N wind; sheltered (in the port) from all winds. Berth: along the knee mole with breakwater (depths from 2-3 m). Anchorage: for the vessels with the draught of up to 4 m.
Žinčena: exposed to winds of the II quadrant; sheltered from all other winds. Anchor: in the W part of the bay (depth is 4-6 m; bottom is muddy). Warning: in front of the E cape of the bay there is an islet Landilić (depth in the passage between is 2 m).
Pašman Channel (between island Pašman and mainland): navigable for the vessels of up to 6 m of draught. Sailing: channel is divided on two navigational passages (W and E) and they are divided by the line (that connect the islets Komornik, Babac, Frmić, Planac and St. Katarina); vessels bigger than 50 BRT have to use the right side (of the passage in the direction of the navigation); vessels under 50 BRT can transit from one passage to another in any part of the channel. Exposed to bora (during the winter reaches gale force) and jugo (cause big waves). Anchorage: forbidden in navigational passages (also in front of entrances and exits). Warning: intensified sea currents; current of tides reaches the speed of around 2.5 knots; during the jugo current speed increases to up to 3 knots; S winds effect the direction of the current and cause very strong whirls; middle part of the channel (from the cape Tukljačan to the islet Garmenjak on the NW and from the cove Soline to the cape Studenac on the SE) is navigable only for the vessels of up to 500 BRT; forbidden sail through the channel when visibility is reduced on less than 0.2 NM; many islands and shallows (especially in SE part).
