Airport and transport – Zadar (10 km); airport Zadar (5 km from the marina “Dalmacija”).
History – first settled by Illyrians (still visible ruins of the villa rustica on Barbir, the Illyrian fortress on Vrčevo and old roman waterworks (Vilinski zid)). First written proof mentioning Sukošan is from the year 1289.
Interesting to see: the Upper Gate (15th century); the Church of Our Lady of Mercy (17th century); the summer villa of the archbishops of Zadar – Palac (on an islet in the middle of the bay; 15th century); the church of Saint Martin (14th century); the church of St Cassian (17th century).
Info – Numerous bays, pebbled beaches and clean sea; the biggest marina of Croatian Adriatic (marina “Dalmacija”) is situated in the bay „Zlatna luka“.
For sailors: exposed to the NW wind (which causes waves) and very strong bura (here it doesn’t cause strong waves); sheltered from other winds. Shallows: around the cape Podvara (below 0.6 m); around the lighthouse (100 m W from cape Podvara; standing on the block that marks a verge of shallowness), and in general near the coast. Anchor: (smaller boats) near the first half of the pier where is 1-2.5 m deep; recommended berth is in marina (NW from the port).
